Cross cut shredders are so called because they cut the paper document being shredded two ways, like a cross. These are different from straight cut shredders as it’s harder to attempt to put the item that has been shredded back together again and is deemed more secure once the shredding has taken place. There are many cross cut shredders on the market place and range from those taking just one or two pieces of paper at a time to those taking 20 or 30 - this just speeds up the shredding process. You should also look at the guarantees on the cutting heads as these need to stay as sharp as possible during the lifetime. Normally 5 years is standard and means the quality of the shredder is higher.
There are plenty of cross cut shredders on the market from the likes of Rexel and Fellowes and many people are selling them.
The prices have fallen by about 40% over the past 6 months or so and now is a good a time as any to invest in your shredder.
Cross cut are better than straight cut even if they are a little slower. It’s because they cut the strips much smaller so it’s harder to make out what has just been shredded.
